Moving to The Hague as an expat

Register with the municipality
You must register your new address with the municipality. You can do so from four weeks before your moving date and no later than five days after. Register later and the municipality uses the date of your notification as your official moving date, which can affect your benefits, your local taxes and your parking permit. Municipalities may also impose a fine of up to 325 euros.
If you are moving to the Netherlands for the first time and will stay longer than four months, you register in the Personal Records Database and receive your citizen service number, the BSN. Staying for less than four months? Then you can request a BSN through the Non-residents Records Database instead. Bring a valid passport, and a rental or purchase contract for your new address. If you are moving in with someone, you also need a signed consent form from the main occupant with a copy of their ID.

Already living in the Netherlands and moving again?
Many internationals arrive in a temporary flat and move to a permanent home within a year or two. If you move to a different municipality, you only register with the new one: it automatically deregisters you from the old one.
